On 11 March 2011, the world was alerted by a devastating news coming from Japan. A quake struck the North Eastern coast of Japan, triggering a tsunami that swiped across the other side of the world from Japan to Taiwan, to the Western coast of USA. I was one of the first few among my friends to receive the news of the Japan quake and tsunami. The power of social media allows me to find out more about the development of situation in Japan before the news are even reported extensively in Singapore. As of today, we are still receiving bits and pieces of news from all over the world. Like yesterday, they reported a suspicion of leaks leading to a possible meltdown from nuclear energy plant in Japan, today it was reported that everything is under control. I can imagine the kind of panic and confusion that the Japanese are feeling right now.
I am now closely monitoring the situation in Japan for a few reasons. Firstly because my colleague has probably left for Tokyo yesterday for a holiday (if she decided to proceed on with it). Secondly, because I have the knowledge of what will happen in a nuclear meltdown. I've seen many Hiroshima footage weeks before on the WWII bombing. Engineering Professionalism case study in school has also discussed on the Chernobyl disaster in the Soviet Union in 1986. Being equipped with the knowledge of potential risks kept me uptight about the situation. Lastly, as you have already known, I will be going to the Western Coast of USA and Tokyo in May. If the situation continues to worsen, I will have to abandon my plans and forfeit that 1.6k worth of air ticket.

The mid term week has passed. Moving out of the second week of March, it's counting down to graduation. With project datelines, interviews, work and FYP at hand, it's important to make good use of the my time. Going to have less coffee these days before I become a coffee addict. Turning into a green tea addict instead! hehehe :p

Oh yes, I am traveling again. This time to US -> Tokyo -> Korea. Because of my financial well-being, I am lucky to be able to just think, budget and go. Some of my friends need to consult their finance ministers before they do so. hehehe Of cuz my parents are well-informed of my travel plans (like always). :)
It's a crazy idea to fly to the States though given my limited budget. And to add on to that stress, accommodation in Tokyo is not cheap! And I know not of the slightest conversational Japanese. Gotta learn ASAP! Been working/ saving up for 4 yrs (my habit), though not explicitly planned for a grad trip like this. I'll never know if I don't save! :)
The trip will be an exciting one given that a friend who is currently on exchange programme in Canada will be joining us there, and probably visit my mum's cousin (I have not seen her before) in Ontario if time permits (we are staying connected on the Facebook). I might also be able to meet up with my bestie for she's traveling in the area with her family at the same time. Am loving all these wonderful possibilities that might happen on the trip.
And Tokyo will be filled with play (which we missed for only stopping over for a night the previous time). Gotta help friends to get some items back too. ;) Coming back on the 27th morning, we will be flying Korea on the 31th. It's for his grandma. She's a nice blessed lady. My grandma didn't manage to live up to her age. Hope it'll make a pleasant trip too. Probably to recover those days I spent with my own. :)
By the time the full trip comes to an end, I will be working doubly, triply hard for an overseas trip with my FULL family. By then, my monetary power will be stronger. Nobody in my family will be left out! :)
And daddy says, for now, I'm left with only Taiwan. Isn't that a blessing? :)
Year end goal: Bring my parents overseas and not just helping them with the travel procedures anymore. I'm committed!
