Wanted to have Eighteenchefs for my late lunch cum breakfast. But we decided to try something else after we've reached the Fusionpolis, the so-called technological base in Singapore. =P
The Korean restaurant, Koryo is located at the second level of Connexis. Business wasn't very good there thus service was much better. We had all their attention as we are the only two patrons at that time. Ordered a Kimchi Hot Pot for 2 which comes with refillable sides and rice + complimentary desserts. Had refill of the sides + the kimchi soup, not upon our request but their offer.
The hotpot is actually soup with kimchi, thick slices of pork and instant noodles. For $18, I won't say that it's money worthwhile, but at least the meal fed us both well. I had trouble walking to the bus stop after that. =( The soup was worth mentioning as it is sweet and sour with only a tinge of spiciness (probably due to the boiling heat). Enjoy eating the Kimchi in the soup much more than the Kimchi as side.
The caramelised lotus slices are very chewy as well. We both felt as though we were eating sweets. =P Other than that, the hot pot was actually just passable. There's nothing interesting in it. Slices of pork are little (I don't like pork anyway) and the noodles were soaked too long that they break easily (seriously, I would prefer seeing glass noodles instead!). Other than just Kimchi and these few other ingredients, the Hot Pot is basically empty.
If you are looking for a cheaper alternative for Korean food, you may wish to give this restaurant a try. But of cuz, Togi at Mosque Street (Chinatown) will still win my vote over this common food restaurant.
Note, there's no GST but a 10% service charge for this restaurant.
